My interest in Tarot began years ago. It amazed me how often the cards would find some hidden message or clearly show exactly how I was feeling at the time.
In 1999 I got my first tarot deck. It was a dragon deck that spoke to me when I was searching through the many decks at a wonderful shop. I began reading every book I could find and practicing with my deck of dragon cards. It didn’t take long for me to want to know more and so I took classes on Tarot. After those sessions I took another online class and with each class and each time I did a reading I learned more about how to receive the message the cards were giving.
I found other decks which I connected with and now have six decks, each of which has a special connection for me. Of course there are my favourites, and ones that I use more often, yet I found that as my journey in learning about tarot and oracle readings grew so, did my desire to create my own decks.
Images I would create began to speak more to me about this wonderful opportunity. To have cards that could be used for reading that spoke of the journey and lessons we all face. There were times in the past when I would find a narrative that connected with what I was seeing in the cards that was from another source. Or other times when the images within a deck were visions I could not relate to. To actually combine my own artwork and the messages I feel and see in the cards is exhilarating.
So for the last couple of years I have begun to create images for my own decks, both Tarot and Oracle. This creative project is one that is very near and dear to my heart and the only thing that has held me back is my own self doubts and fears. Though I would continue to create the art for the decks and jot down meanings and the story behind the image. Not taking it any further than humble beginnings and a dream.
It seems that the universe decided it was time to give me a gentle push in the direction of this dream. In 2011 I found a deck of cards that was published by another artist who uses the same process for creating art as I do. I believe I was meant to find this deck and it is now among my favourite collections. Sometimes we need help from our guides to take those steps that seem at first daunting. I am so excited that my guides choose to find a way to help me see that the only thing that stops us from following our dreams are ourselves and while at times it seems like baby steps moving forward, as long as you keep trying…. you will be able to one day walk, run and fly!!
I am now the proud creator of the Rainbow Travellers Tarot deck. In 2012 I self-published the cards and booklet and had them printed locally in the Cowichan Valley. What I couldn’t have foreseen was that this was just the beginning of a journey these cards would take me on as I began sharing them with the world. I have connected with so many amazing and wonderful people and the cards have become a tool to share wisdom and guidance. This project continues to open new doorways and opportunities for me and I know it is just the first of other cards and decks that I will create.
